Dr. Robert Zubowski is an exceptionally gifted New Jersey breast implants surgeon who has helped numerous women realize their dreams of voluptuous, beautiful bustlines. Dr. Zubowski understands that every patient has a different set of aesthetic needs, concerns and preferences. This is why he offers a wealth of breast implant types, shapes and sizes. Explore the paragraphs below to learn more about your implant options and compare the pros and cons of saline and silicone breast implants.
A breast implant is a surgical prosthesis designed to enlarge the size of the breast. During breast augmentation surgery, the surgeon first creates an incision under the breast, around the nipple, in the armpit or in the navel area. The surgeon then uses this opening to insert the implant. Once the implants are positioned in place, the incisions are closed. If needed, the surgeon inserts special surgical drains to drain excess fluids and help minimize swelling. The drains are usually removed after a few days. Breast implants can remain in the breasts for many years, or they can be removed or repositioned to change the volume or shape of the bustline.
Dr. Robert Zubowski offers two types of breast implants: saline implants and silicone implants. Both implants are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. Two most common breast implant shapes are the anatomical and the rounded shape. The anatomical implant is also called a “tear drop” implant because it is fuller at the bottom. The rounded implant is sometimes referred to as the “Victoria’s Secret” look because it is rounded at the top to create a push-up effect.
Another important consideration is breast implant surface. When selecting your implants, you will need to choose between smooth or textured implants. Smooth implants tend to feel soft and give a natural feel to the breast. Textured implants feel somewhat firmer to the touch than saline implants and can sometimes help prevent implant hardening, but they might be visible under the skin. Dr. Zubowski’s preference is often to use smooth implants which he feels gives the most natural look and feel to the breast in most circumstances.
The most important choice you will make about your breast implants will be whether to get saline or silicone implants. Both types of breast prostheses can deliver excellent, natural-looking results. However, there are several important differences between saline and silicone breast implants.
Silicone breast implants might feel more like your natural breast tissue. This is because silicone implants are filled with a gel-based substance. While this means that silicone implants hold their shape better, it also means that a full-size implant must be inserted in the breast. In comparison, saline implants can be inserted in the breast folded and then filled with the saline solution. As a result, silicone implants usually require a slightly larger incision than saline implants.
Saline breast implants are less expensive and have been used safely for many years in breast augmentation. Because these implants are filled with saline solution (water and salt), in case of an implant rupture the body harmlessly absorbs the saline and a change in size and shape of the breast is readily apparent. In comparison, the rupture of silicone implants is often without symptoms (silent). Screening MRI examinations over the course of your lifetime will be needed to determine if silent rupture is present.
