The majority of rhinoplasty procedures are performed using the open rhinoplasty method. This means that the skin of the nose is cut and lifted away from the bone and cartilage framework beneath, then shaped and sculpted as the surgeon feels fit. To complete the open nose surgery, the skin is re-draped over the nasal framework, and a splint is applied to help the nose maintain its new form. Depending on the needs of each NJ rhinoplasty patient, Dr. Zubowski sometimes places nasal packs or soft splints into the nostrils to create additional stability.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Bruising, swelling, and minor discomfort of the nose can be expected immediately following a rhinoplasty procedure. However, Dr. Zubowski will prescribe medication to help alleviate these side effects, while using cold compresses will further alleviate the discomfort and reduce swelling. Splints, packing, and stitches will be removed about a week after the procedure, at which point the rhinoplasty New Jersey patient may resume normal, moderate activities. The majority of any visible swelling and bruising will usually disappear within two weeks. Strenuous physical activities may be resumed within a few months of the rhinoplasty procedure.
