During this procedure, dermatologist specializing in Mohs surgery removes the skin cancer layer by layer. Each layer is immediately inspected under a microscope to determine whether any cancerous cells are present. If so, another layer of tissue is removed, until the microscope confirms that the skin is cancer-free. Mohs micrographic surgery helps preserve maximum amount of healthy tissue and it is highly effective in completely removing any cancerous growths.
During this surgery, a special surgical instrument is used to remove the cancerous cells together with a thin layer of the surrounding tissue. The incision site is closely immediately with appropriate stitches to promote smooth healing. The tissue sample is then sent to the laboratory where it is thoroughly inspected to confirm that all of the cancerous cells have been removed.
This procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Zubowski uses a special instrument to remove the cancerous cells and applies an electrodesiccation device to destroy any residual cancer cells and stop bleeding. Depending on the extent of cancerous growths, this procedure can be repeated several times to ensure that all of the malignant growths are removed.
During cryosurgery, Dr. Zubowski destroys the cancerous growths by using liquid nitrogen. A major benefit of this procedure is that it does not require any incisions or stitches. After the treatment, the cancerous growth becomes crusted and dry and falls off within a few weeks.
As a highly accomplished New Jersey skin cancer treatment provider, Dr. Zubowski is proud to also offer laser therapy. During laser skin cancer surgery, he uses a specialized laser that delivers a unique frequency of energy to the cancer cells, thus destroying them. Similarly to cryosurgery, laser surgery does not require incisions, stitches or any downtime.
This treatment can be used for patients with basal cell carcinomas. During the procedure, a dermatologist applies a special topical medicine to the cancerous growth. This solution is absorbed by the cancerous cells. Next, Dr. Zubowski applies a strong light to the cancerous growths. As a result, the cancerous cells are destroyed without any surgical intervention.
